.au domains

Registrants must meet the following requirements to register a second level .AU domain name::

.asn.au:

Domain names must be an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of the Registrant's name or otherwise closely and substantially connected to the Registrant.

Registrants must be one of the following:

• An association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory.
• A political party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission.
• A trade union or other organization registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.
• A sporting or special interest club operating in Australia.
• A charity operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant’s constitution or other documents of incorporation.
• A non-profit organization operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant’s constitution or other documents of incorporation.

.com.au:

Domain names must be an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of the Registrant's name or trademark, or otherwise closely and substantially connected to the Registrant.

To register a .COM.AU domain name, registrants must be one of the following:

• An Australian registered company.
• Trading under a registered business name in any Australian State or Territory.
• An Australian partnership or sole trader.
• A foreign company licensed to trade in Australia.
• The owner of an Australian Registered Trademark.
• An applicant for an Australian Registered Trademark.
• An association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory.
• An Australian commercial statutory body.

.id.au:

Domain names must be an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of the Registrant's personal name or otherwise closely and substantially connected to the Registrant. The name must include or be drived from one or more words of the Registrant's name or the name by which the Registrant is commonly known (nickname).

To register a .ID.AU domain name, registrants must be an Australian citizen or an Australian resident.

.net.au:

Domain names must be an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of the Registrant's name or otherwise closely and substantially connected to the Registrant.

To register a .NET.AU domain name, registrants must be one of the following:

• An Australian registered company.
• Trading under a registered business name in any Australian State or Territory.
• An Australian partnership or sole trader.
• A foreign company licensed to trade in Australia.
• The owner of an Australian Registered Trademark.
• An applicant for an Australian Registered Trademark.
• An association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory.
• An Australian commercial statutory body.

.org.au:

Domain names must be an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of the Registrant's name or otherwise closely and substantially connected to the Registrant.

To register a .ORG.AU domain name, registrants must belong to one of the following:

• An association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory.
• A political party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission.
• A trade union or other organization registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.
• A sporting or special interest club operating in Australia.
• A charity operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant’s constitution or other documents of incorporation.
• A non-profit organization operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant’s constitution or other documents of incorporation.

This extension doesn't have any technical requirements.

• .ASN.AU: Associations, political parties, social or sporting clubs and unions.
• .com.a: business entities (enterprises / companies ..)
• .net.au: business entities (enterprises / companies ..)
• .id.au: individual resident in Australia or originating in Australia.
• .org.au: charitable and nonprofit organizations.

When the domain is registered, auDA asks for some information that should be completed by the registrant:

• Name of the registrant. (Legal name, can be a company, association, agency or individual goubernamental, but not a company or brand name.
• Identification, that should be: ACN (Australian Company Number), ABN (Australian Business Number) o OTHER.
• Kind of "eligibility". (You must indicate what it is: business, charity, club ....)
• Name of "eligibility". (name that appears in the "eligibility document ID")
• ID of "eligibility". (ID document eligibility differ if the ID of the registrant, for example, when the registrant is using a trade name or trademark to be "eligible" for the domain.

To be able to complete .AU domain transfers you'll need your current registrar to give you the domain's AuthCode or EPP-Key, with it you'll be able to verify your domain's ownership.

Once the transfer has started, an e-mail is sent to the email indicated in the form of transfer, the registrant has two days to accept or cancel.

Once the transfer is completed, the registration period is extended for one year from the original expiration date.

The renewal period runs from 90 days before its expiry date to 30 days after it. When a domain is renewed, it is automatically renewed for two years (if expires on January 1, 2011 and is renewed the December 1, 2010, the domain is renewed until January 1, 2013).

Upon reaching the expiration date, domain status passes Expired Hold, the domain's DNS are deleted and can not be updated, renewed or transferred to another registrar.

If the domain is not renewed for the next 30 days after expiration, the status is Pending Purge Expired, the domain can not be updated, renewed or transferred to another registrar. The domain will be purged from the Registry during the next deletion cycle.

It's impossible to cancel a .AU domain registration.

DNS modification is immediate, please note they must propagate through the network, this process can take up to 6-12 hours to complete, until then the domain will still point to the previous DNS servers.

.ASN.AU domains permit automatic owner changes, you'll be able to change this data from your client area.
