The .GI extension was created in 1995 for companies based in Gibraltar. The entity that manages it is GibNet.

Domain Restrictions
One and two character names are not allowed.
The .com.gi top level zone (without any preceding generic zone) is for the exclusive use of Gibraltar registered businesses and organisations and may only be used for their own local services/purposes.
No .com.gi Domain Name may be used or appear to be used for pornography or any other activity that is illegal in Gibraltar.
Any domain names which, in the opinion of the Committee, may be considered offensive or defamatory are not allowed.
In the case of a domain name dispute, Sapphire's Domain Name Dispute Policy shall be adhered to.
There shall be at least 2 nameservers for the domain (with addresses specified in the request) operating at the time the request is submitted. There is no restriction on the physical location or IP address of these nameservers.

Registrations
.gi domain registrations are immediate.
Transfers
To complete .GI domain transfer, you'll need your current registrar to provide you the domain's AuthCode or EPP-Key to verify the ownership of the domain.
Transfers can take between 5 and 7 days to complete. Some registrars provide manual transfers allowing transfers to be completed on the same day, contact your current registrar to find out if they offer this service.

When the transfer ends, the expiration date doesn't change.
Renewals
The renewal of .GI domains is different than with other extensions.
It's necessary to request the domain renewal at least 1 days before the domain expiration.
In case the renewal request is done after this date, the correct renewal is not guaranteed.
Cancellations
It's possible to request a cancellation of your .GI domain, visit the support center to open a support ticket. Please note, cancelling a name does not provide a refund of any registration fees.
DNS modifications
DNS modification is immediate, please note they must propagate through the network, this process can take up to 6-12 hours to complete, until then the domain will still point to the previous DNS servers.
Domain owner change
Ownership changes are done manually and have additional costs, contact us via ticket in case you're interested in it.
Permitted characters
.gi domains permit characters from 'a' to 'z', numbers from '0' to '9' and hyphens '-'.
A hyphen '-' is not permitted in the first or last position of the domain name.
Two consecutive hyphens are not permitted in the 3rd and 4th position.
